Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers are used for inline cooling or heating of low to medium viscous products. The heat exchangers consists of a bundle of small tubes within a large cylinder (or shell).

How it works

Through these tubes a product is pumped, where through the shell the heating or cooling medium is pumped in a counterflow. The mediums which can be used are: steam, hot water, ice water or glycol.

Inspectie & onderhoud

The Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers are fully made out of stainless steel, which make them suitable to use in hygienic applications like the food industry. Next to that, the heat exchangers are easily cleanable and drainable.

Because there are no moving parts, the machine is easy and cheap in maintenance. The tubes can also be easily inspected, because of two lids on both sides of the heat exchanger.

Processing high viscous products?

The Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers can be used for processing low to medium viscous products. When the viscosity of the product is too high, the tubes can become clogged which stops the flow and the heat transfer.

Scraped Surface Heat Exchanger

The Kelstream Scraped Surface Heat Exchanger is a vertical scraped heat exchanger with double concentric heated surfaces for an optimal heat exchange for food, feed, pharma and non-food.

This unique design in thermal processing brings all the benefits of different types heat exchangers together in one package: it can handle high viscous products like mashed potato, it has a large heated surface per unit, it takes only a small footprint and it doesn’t damage your product.

How it works

Continuously scraped

The scraper system continuously scrapes the whole heated or cooled surface, resulting in an extremely efficient heattransfer. This scraping principle has a major efficiency advantage compared to conventional plate or tube-shaped heat exchangers. Furthermore, this prevents the product from sticking to the surface.

Two heat transfer surfaces

The Kelstream has two heat transfer surfaces. The heating or cooling media is fully separated from the product area.

Media which can be used are: glycol, icewater, water, liquid ammonia, steam or hot water.

Heating or cooling products with solid components

With the Kelstream Scraped Surface Heat Exchanger you can cool and heat products that contain firm components. The maximum product identity is preserved. You can cool/heat products with particles of a maximum size of 25 mm.

CIP cleanable​

The Kelstream Scraped Surface Heat  Exchanger can be fully included in the existing CIP system. You can clean the Kelstream counterlow, whereby the scraping system can rotate clockwise or anticlockwise. This results in optimum cleaning of the Kelstream.

Hygienic lipseal

The Kelstream is equipped with a hygienic lipseal. With this lipseal, you don’t need a barrier fluid to keep the seal working. But, when a hygienic solution is required, you can flush or clean the seal from within.

This prevents microbiological build-up or crystallization. The lipseal is cost effective, since you only need to replace the wearing parts of the seal.
